Great American Condom Campaign

Posted by Condomologist on February 25, 2009

As I got my start in sexual health facilitating sexuality programs at college, I have a special place in my heart for those students who work to educate their peers on campuses around the country. Any open dialogue around sex empowers young people to take more responsibility for their health and make smarter decisions when having sex; but there’s something that much more powerful when the discussion is being led by one’s peers. After all, anyone who’s had a slightly awkward conversation with a parent about sex or listened to a dorky old health or science teacher fumble through sex ed in high school knows that older folks tend to inevitably be a bit out of touch with the kids. So for the young people reading the blog, especially those on campuses where condom access is limited, I point you to the Great American Condom Campaign. A project of Advocates for Youth and its Youth Activist Network — materially supported by Trojan — it encourages students to take on the fight to promote safer sex themselves. I can say, from my life-changing year at Sex Out Loud at the University of Wisconsin, that it’s a venture worthy of your time and efforts.
